Liquid fuels

In the BLT, the focus of research and testing is in the fuel sector for vegetable oil and biodiesel. Starting from the oilseed through the various processing steps and the transesterification to fatty acid methyl ester, the entire production chain on laboratory scale is available. In the case of oilseeds, the thousand seed weight, the water content and the oil content, and in the case of press cake and extraction meal samples, the residual fat content are determined.

The properties of the fuel samples are compared with the relevant requirement standards and regulations (EN 590: diesel fuel, EN 14214: fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), DIN 51605: rapeseed oil fuel, DIN 51623: vegetable oil fuel, Austrian fuel ordinance).

The analysis methods are: flash point, kinematic viscosity, calorific value, water content according to Karl Fischer, cold temperature behavior (CFPP, CP, PP), acid number, iodine number, fatty acid distribution, total contamination, oxidation stability and content of Ca, Mg, Na, K, P and S
