EN 303-5 “new”

Abstract

The continuous implementation of the boiler test according to EN 303-5:2021 contains some significant changes in the test procedure compared to the previous version EN 303-5:2012 and new test methods have also been included. The targeted processing of the relevant changes and innovations is intended to enable the most homogeneous transition possible for testing in accordance with EN 303-5:2021 on the BLT Wieselburg test bench. This has become even more important since, according to Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/564, EN 303-5:2021+A1:2022 was declared a harmonised standard in support of Delegated Regulation 2015/1187 and in support of Regulation 2015/1189. For this purpose, the implemented changes and innovations were worked out in a direct comparison. Preliminary tests for carrying out the test at minimum heat output with automatically stoked boilers in a buffer combination were carried out. A heat dissipation system based on a controlled cold water feed was implemented for testing condensing boilers. The information relevant for certain test procedures is summarised in the standard on a procedure-related basis. The determination of the annual space heating emissions, the annual space heating utilisation factor and the energy efficiency index in accordance with Regulations (EU) 2015/1189 and (EU) 2015/1187 has been simplified with the help of an improved calculation tool. Since its publication, EN 303-5 has been the central basis for testing solid fuel boilers. By summarising the essential requirements for the individual test methods, the report is intended to provide assistance for a uniform interpretation of the test/requirement standard and thus provide certainty with regard to test preparation, performance, assessment and comparability.
