Abstracts
The aim of the project "PrüfReal" was to present and evaluate the influence of wood pellet quality on the emission behavior of biomass small scale plants. The main focus of the project was to determine the effects on the emission behavior by changing the content of aerosol forming elements (such as potassium) in the fuel during full and partial load operation. In order to determine the data, combustion tests at the boiler test bench with different boiler types and defined fuel quality were conducted. The variation of the fuel quality refers to the ash and element contents and ranged within the limit values for A1 qualities, required in current fuel standards. In addition to the combustion test according to the conditions of EN 303-5, continuous tests with a defined load cycle were conducted. The changes in the emission behavior after a period of more than 500 operation hours and the effect of the plant condition and the purification of the plant were also collected.
The results show, that the fuel quality, in particular the content of aerosol forming elements (such as potassium), has a wide influence on emissions such as dust and CO. Especially with poor fuel qualities, a periodic maintenance und purification show a high potential of emission reduction in practice.
