First Time CAMBRIDGE, First Class Results!

For the first time in the history of the Francisco Josephinum, students had the chance to take part in the optional subject “Cambridge Certificate”.

The goal was clear from the beginning: We wanted to pass the B2 language exam and get the certificate at the end of the school year. By now, we can proudly present the results: one student finished the exam with a confirmation of a B1 language level, 20 students successfully completed the B2 level exam, with 9 of these students even reaching a C1 level which is actually more than expected at next year’s Matura.

We worked hard for this success: We met once every week to practice and improve our English skills in preparation for the exam. In spite of the late-afternoon sessions at the end of some busy school days, Mrs. Schuberth and language assistant Anita kept us entertained with interesting and amusing tasks. Finally, the long-expected day had arrived: we got up early and travelled to Vienna by train, where we reached the Cambridge Institute at the Mariahilferstraße after a short foot-walk. The exam itself consisted of four different parts: Reading and Use of English, Listening, Writing and Speaking. For the speaking test, we were teamed up in groups of two or three and talked about different topics to a native speaker examiner. Although most of us were quite nervous before the exam, we all had a great day in Vienna and are proud of our excellent results.

Last but not least we want to say thank you to Mrs. Schuberth and Anita who prepared us for the exam in the best possible way. Moreover, we also want to give thanks to the Eltern- and Förderverein who generously supported us financially and sponsered parts of the examination fee.
